Question 1

What is WaitingForMacGuffin?

Accepted Answer

WaitingForMacGuffin tracks Oscar prediction market prices on Kalshi and Polymarket for the 2027 Oscars (99th Academy Awards), across all 21 categories. Each contender shows one number by default, the average of the two platforms, with each platform's own price beside it, plus dollars traded, large trades, precursor award results and the season calendar. Market data, not advice.

Question 2

Where does WaitingForMacGuffin get its Oscar odds data?

Accepted Answer

From Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated exchange in the United States, and from Polymarket. Our price feed records both platforms' prices; while the live connection is active, a page also updates as prices change.

Question 3

Who runs the markets on Kalshi and Polymarket?

Accepted Answer

Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated exchange in the United States. Polymarket is a separate platform with its own rules on who may use it. WaitingForMacGuffin only shows the two platforms' prices: it is not a trading platform and takes no orders.

Question 4

How do I read the Oscar odds on WaitingForMacGuffin?

Accepted Answer

A price of 65¢ reads as a 65% chance: the market's estimate that the contender wins. A contract pays $1.00 if the outcome happens and $0.00 if it does not. The site shows the average of Kalshi and Polymarket by default, and either platform on its own at a switch.
